In terms of making coffee, we fully believe in the far reaching positive effects of coffee on the drinker, those who grow or cultivate it and everyone who participates in making it available for you to enjoy.
Besides the many scientifically theorized health and medical benefits, we strive to only source coffee that:
- Provides the means for people to grow the beans in a sustainable way
- Harvests are being fairly traded
- Co-operative and worker owned
- Plants are valued for the unique qualities and not quantity
Life, happiness and self-sustaining work is what coffee means to those who cultivate it, harvest, process, distribute, roast and enjoy each cup.
Sustainable coffee is when the plants that are grown with a respect for the present AND the future.
This includes coffee certified as organic, fair trade, and Rainforest Alliance.
Coffee has a number of classifications used to determine the participation of growers (or the supply chain) in various combinations of social, environmental, and economic standards.
Rasayana Coffee strives to be conscious of what will best serve the growers of the coffee beans we buy to roast for you.
We place a high standard on the decision to participate in that system with responsibility; respect and gratitude to all who help make our business possible.
You can feel comfortable that the happiness, livelihood and future of the growers and distributors of your coffee are as important to us as you are.
At no time will we ever knowingly choose to take unfair advantage of any person, organization, group or country to increase our profits or leverage our position in the market place to increase our standard of living at the expense of others.
Exactly the opposite of what you would expect from a global business in today's competitive marketplace.
That's Sustainable business to us at Rasayana Coffee.
After learning to hand roast coffee, everyday, for over 7 years in personal batches, Rasayana Coffee was born with the hopes of reintroducing coffee to the San Francisco community.
With so much social injustice tied to coffee bean production and distribution, we saw an opportunity to create a true artisan process with a sincere emphasis on sustainability, low volume and high quality.
Working with local co-op owned distributors of green beans, we understand the experience of coffee drinking can be as variable as our daily experiences of life. Monotonous, bland coffee was being purveyed by most coffee sellers with an emphasis on profits and ease of procurement.
Rasayana Coffee hopes to change the entire process of enjoying coffee from the well known logo on bag or the distinctive color of a cup to, a personally accountable, hand crafted, intuitive roasting method that is as fresh and unaltered as you would expect from your meals.
By creating a process to accommodate the many ways our customers choose to prepare their coffee we strive to maintain our on demand, zero preservatives, roasting to ensure your next cup is as close to perfect as possible.
"Garbage in, garbage out" is a commonly held saying of the technology savvy and after being adopted as the minimum standard for foodies across the Bay Area, we invite you to shift your perspective to coffee that doesn't believe in mass production, automation or profits over quality.
Employing your fellow San Franciscans at a fair wage, challenging them to create the best product possible and soon to be using creative zero carbon footprint roasting techniques, we are bringing coffee to the next level - fresh, 100% hand roasted by people who love to make each sip utterly fantastic.
